both box and altar are very cool. thanks for the photos of your artistic process.
i assume you've considered the intent or ramifications of making a Kort'thsalis cabinet... seems to me that whatever you place inside will be absorbed, attuned, and aligned by the Meta-Sigil. but if you have a different interpretation, i'd love to hear it.
VS I had thought of that. Hence, the language around the box as well as the sigils on each side. The bottom of the box, has no symbol - just blank. The idea is what ever I place in the box, that old dark knowledge, would be absorbed; but through the fusion of the trinity, the absorption would be into the mind, the place where my Old Ones wait, to be awakened. Into myself. Hence, the box is a vessel - and I the vessel. The box is symbolic of me, an I of it. Together, the collective I's become one - and 'wisdom' happens through the absorption of the dark knowledge. What we hide in plain view, is that the 'secrets' are hidden in the dimensions of the sides of the box. To the ordinary eye, what appears to be an empty box - is full. Hence, the blank bottom. But, 'secrets' on each side of the box. On the inner-lid, is my hand-print - I am part of it, and it a part of me. Get it?

i get it. awesome!
also liked the Lovecraftian entity painted on the top of the box. is that from a stencil of some kind?
and how did you do the hand print? did you stain the inside of the box lid around your hand?

Your altar area is quite lovely...Cozy and built for two. I'm somewhat envious.
Forgive my ignorance; but, I'm unfamiliar with the Kort'thsalis cabinet...Due tell?

VS Woot! Sometimes these ideas come out clear as mud in written format. Glad you are following my ideas. Ever worked with the cube of space? The box essentially becomes my hyper-cube. Yah, I'm full of ideas, and I'm here all week. ba dun dun. Actually, what appears to be 'stencil' is actually a decal, similar to the one I used on my car. I have them in (3) colors Green, Black and White. Vinyl decals are multi-use! The hand print. I used diluted acrylic paint, when the paint is still wet - I placed my hand in it. It picks up the print, beautifully. It pulls away enough paint to give way to a nice print, but not too much to make it look like that's what I did. Kind of like putting your hand in wood-stain that hasn't quite dried yet. I took an old rag, dipped it in a bowl of diluted acrylic and rubbed the entire box with it, inside and out. I wanted the 'wood' look to come through, and I didn't want to use wood stain. So, diluted acrylic works wonders. You can 'stain' any unfinished wood in this manner, with any color you can come up with. Then you just clear coat over it. Voila! Sealed. I'm not quite finished with the altar yet. It's going to include some other fine touches before I seal the whole thing. The top of it, where the most usage will be, will be a thick clear coat - that when dry looks like glass. Kind of like those cheesy tables you see in seafood joints that have seashells and what not in them. Same premise.

You can read about the Meta-sigil here: www.eldritch-infernal.com/metasigil.htmlKort'thsalis, can be the 'Great Old One ' itself, but place it in the context of how I interpret the Old Ones. I consider the Old Ones to be the 'true self', dormant, waiting to be awakened by the Mighty Cthulhu. BUT, Cthulhu must first be awakened, as it is the only one with the 'Dark Knowledge' to awaken them. The Kort'thsalis, is "THE" Old One, the meta-sigil. It is absorbed through the self, (mind, body, however you want to visualize it), it becomes part of you. So now you have "THE" Old One, who works through you, breaking down all walls, all barriers and any/all falsehoods to awaken the Old Ones. To include, bypassing the need to awaken Cthulhu from his slumber, for such a small task. The true self, even if only for a moment - to exact power. That power is channeled deep from the 'true self' to be manifested outside of the self, in what ever way you 'visualize' . This is a conceptualization of power technique. It is a 'cabinet' in that, I have placed the Kort'thsalis, on the box. Venger's concern, was that anything I place inside the box - would be wiped out, and render it useless. What he didn't account for, was the mad trickery of Cora'Sahn!

not exactly wiped out, per se , but it's original intent would definitely be distorted to fit the Meta-Sigil's program. of course, there are ways around Kort'thsalis's protocol, but as long as Cora'Sahn doesn't mind re-programing what she keeps in the box to become God herself, it's all good.

because Kort'thsalis exists not only in your subjective reality, but mine as well... and others. when ritualizing K't for the first time, it became an objective event in the space/time continuum via black magic.
for example, you could use a Nazi swastika as a sigil for finding delicious apples and it will probably do just that; however, part of that symbol, its essence, will always be tied to Germany's national socialist empire. even if you were totally unaware of the swastika's original meaning... it would still retain that first magic, if you will.
and yes, i know that the hooked cross came from a source far older than Nazi Germany. however, a prior magical event colors everything that comes after.

VS I understand. Based on this elaboration, what are your thoughts regarding, the unknown? The hidden? For example, had I not shared this project with the forum and used it with my own programming - how would it be 'changed' when others work with the symbol? In my subjective reality, collective consciousness does not exist. Though, I do believe in the human connection, but I believe that takes at least some form of awareness. Thinking this through, it could be that because I'm 'aware' that others are working the symbol, and the creation story of this symbol - it's embedded in my subconscious. Even though I'm doing conscious work with the symbol, it also includes the 'work' of the collective. My subconscious is a smart cookie. The sigils of my trinity of Old Ones 'hide' this work, from the collective. Thoughts?

That's what I was going for. The 'old box' look. This is why I did the rub in a black acrylic, to make it look 'molded' and dirty. Woot! Glad that comes through to others when they view it.

what makes up the subconscious? is it a combination of things we consciously take in, things that enter our mind below or above the normal conscious level, and whatever impressions were installed in our primitive ancestors aeons ago? call it race memory or something from Jungian psychology; however, i believe that the Old Ones implanted certain pictures or concepts inside of us.
can our own subconscious mind also be influenced by black magic? i believe it can. perhaps those who have used K't previously, their subjective reality influencing your own subjective reality, have altered your unique program without you being consciously aware of it?
as for what is the unknown, that's probably best left to another post or thread.

[quote author=admin board=artwork thread=2011 post=22740 time=1248280782 what makes up the subconscious? is it a combination of things we consciously take in, things that enter our mind below[/quote]
No. I think it's things that we take in, but are widely unaware of. If you can imagine this:
The human eye picks up 100 images per second. We couldn't possibly be aware of all of the images, hence the reason why strange faces we've seemingly never met before, pop up in dreams or thoughts. I believe it's a conglomerate of things similar to this. When I'm reading a book, what is my Peripheral vision picking up?
A bird in a tree across the street building it's nest? My cat playing with her toys down the hall from me? What sounds am I hearing? What influences am I really aware of? What is the brain processing? How is it processing it? Once processed, what will it produce? Will I be aware of this process? Will I understand it? Will you?
That's assuming it's an objective reality that such imprints are possible, proven and do happen. Is primal instinct influence or inherently natural?
If my ancestors were cannibals, is it assumed this is the reason for my morbid fascination with cannibalism today? We can only speculate, and draw conclusions upon those speculations.
But wouldn't you agree, that in itself is based upon your personal subjective reality, and interpretations of what the 'Old One's are? Your Old Ones are not mine, and vice versa - and it's perfectly okay or is it's obscurity and flexibility, the horror? Nothing can be constant or absolute.
The very idea of 'black' magic, is an influence. These dualistic principles applied to power of will, as if this will can be codified as this or that. It's will. It wants. It will take it by force if necessary. But the 'magic' occurs when one's will is exacted in such a way, that most are widely unaware that is what is working for them, with them and against them. Carnal is black, and Spiritual is white? This is hooey to me, and not part of my sphere of reality, but I certainly understand why you make such identifications for yourself, the influence is ever present in the world of Occult knowledge.
If I believe it to be so, it will be so.
If I believe it's not possible, because of the steps I have taken - it will not, especially when no belief that this is possible is present in the first place. You believe it to be so, therefore; your words of caution. I believe it is not, therefore I am not concerned with it.
Perhaps, if addressed as a separate issue all together but as it relates to this discussion specifically - my gnosis is not known to you, or any other for that matter. My voice here, or anywhere - is a perception based understanding.
You know what you think you know about my wisdom, what I want you to know, the rest I keep for myself. Doesn't the same apply to you, even in your position of HP of this organization? We couldn't possibly 'know' what you know, we can only 'think' we know - and therefore what you 'know' ...your Gnosis, is hidden from us. It is unknowable.

actually, that's precisely what i meant by things that come in above or below our conscious mind. whatever we perceive, but immediately ignore or forget would go into the subconscious.
i agree, black can be spiritual and white magic (if there is such a thing) can be carnal. i use the phrase black magic for the aesthetic connotations and because i'm referring to Left Hand Path magic... or, rather, magic as understood from a LHP perspective.
yes, i do agree. that's why i said, "i believe" instead of saying something like, "these are facts, Jack."
ok, i think i understand what you're talking about now. it is my contention that a certain quality of reality (one might call them laws) exists outside of the subjective realm. this would be objective reality, i suppose.
even if you don't know what sorcery i'm doing, it goes out into the universe and beyond the universe. there are things i can't control, you can't control, and so forth.
anyone else want to weigh-in on these topics. no one's going to flame you, so feel free to have at it.

It's certainly possible. I keep myself open, as I don't believe in applying absolutes to philosophical ideas.
It brings to mind, the Lovecraftian ideas of 'From Beyond'. These things are all around us, we can't see them, and they may not notice us - until we step inside it's realm to be noticed.
My cabinet, could also be a symbol of the plethora of ideas that surround me that I'm not aware of, what's inside hasn't noticed me yet. It may very well be, that when I work with it; these ideas will come to forefront to be noticed. Like flipping on the resonator. My pineal glad grows, as it is stimulated by it's influence (metaphorically speaking); and I am noticed. The creatures then set their sights on me, perhaps I'll be bitten from time to time, but it's a risk that should be taken.
:-)
Oh yeah, by all means - anyone else can join this discussion. I have some pretty firm ideas, but I'm extremely flexible and open to outside perspective.
[and the occasional flame, doesn't hurt too much :-)]

I thought 'Green Monsters' would make a great children's song, for background music to a 'A Nightmare for Every child'
If anyone is interested, I'd like to collaborate on creating stories for children, and a children's book.
any takers?
Anyone want to take a stab at the music for the lyrics?
Any creators in the house?

That's a great idea to have them read outloud. I'm working on a short story now - and man, while I'm doing a gazillion things I hope to have it finished by October.
It's title? Green Monsters!
