so i come to the CoC with a very rudimentary background in Wicca/Neo-Paganism. I was never really into satanism (thought it overly negative, not as spiritual as i wanted) or any other LHP.
i came to the CoC because i couldnt identify with any pantheon. i thought of using the mythos pantheon a few months back but never developed that idea. then a few days ago i found the Cult. or the Cult found me. and im glad for it.
but basically from reading a lot of your posts i see that you all come from strong LHP backgrounds quite unlike me. what should i be continuing? what parallels can be drawn between the two?
also, does the CoC observe the Wheel Of The Year/ Changing Of The Seasons at all?
i did love how Wicca was about connecting back with nature, that was a huge draw for me. through nature seeing the flow of life and spirit in everything else.
also i try to be positive. i mean nice, you know? i have a reasonable amount of self-esteem... i was hoping for more (hoping magick and the CoC could remedy that), but i really TRY to be a nice guy. but sometimes i feel like its an uphill battle. my instinct is to be impatient, not tolerate stupidity/mentl slowness... i know i have a dark side. but i want a light side too.
is the CoC about duality, striking a balance? or like satanism is it a dog-eat-dog world in which we dont eat unless we steal the scraps from the other's mouth, so to speak?
sorry if im coming through a bit murky im really tired! work early this morning off very little sleep. answer what you can, ask me to clarify what i can, and thank you all for your time!!!

You will probably get different answers from the different people here, but for me, LHP or RHP doesnt really matter THAT much because i deem them both to be rather relative. When is something truly LHP and when is it RHP, i dont know. It is in the eye of the beholder (in my eyes anyway). In my mind they are sides of the same coin. Both sides equally terrible and wonderful at once. Rather than despising the right hand path and loving the left hand path, i would rather say that i simply despice driven ignorance and that i love honest search. That works better for me than left/right But as i said, different people, different believes. What we all have in commom here is the understanding that humanity as a whole is asleep. And the drive to awaken. I more or less do, but i cant say about others. Also i can recognize a lot of myself in your words. I am also a "nature lover" and i also attempt to come across as being a pleasant person. Kinda, "be what you want to see" sorta thing. For me, the Cult is ALL those things and more. It is what we make it, there is much individual freedom within the cult. Hope that i have helped with my answers, although i have to yet again stress that this is just how I feel about it as a person. ;D

I am a humble worm, i am not much of a guide. There IS guidance to be found within the cult. Mainly in the words of the Green Pope, and the Cthulhu Cult bible. Of course we all try to help each others development when we can, and of course i will also give you any advice i can. But in order for your growth to be true, it must spring from within. The Emerald glow is a pole, but we the flowers must ourselves grow to reach it. As a first, i recommend the Cthulhu Cult bible. if you scroll down and click the painting on the bottom right part of the screen then you got the pdf. www.key64.net/article/1313-the-cult-of-cthulhu/

IA! There is an almost Budhist background to the Cult as well. Budhism is LHP because you focus on yourself, not on giving yourself slavishly to an outside source. It's about self development, just like the Cult. I dont worship the Old Gods in a traditional sense, I view them, as I said in another post in the past, as the Kungfu masters, and us as the grasshoppers. Ask a Catholic if they worship the saints.. they will say no, they just have their statues and stuff around to give them reverence and call on their spirits for help. Just remember, LHP isnt all about cursing and hexing as others would lead you to believe, we just dont have as many problems doing as some others! And basically, as Madgutten has said, Good and Evil, LHP and RHP are a matter of perspective, as sometimes either can have the same goals, it is really the human mind's need to classify things that gives us such definitions. We are striving to become.. something else.. beyond tipical humanity. In Sumarian mythology, the Elder gods made us as slaves. They wared with the Ancient Old Gods, who are basically like the Titans (or giants in Norse). They killed an Old God, Kingu, (most Old Ones are the children of Tiamat) and used his blood to create us as we are. Kingu was over self destruction and self limitation. But by that myth, we are of both the Elder (old/pagan gods) and the Ancient Old (A:O) Titans. Both call to us, but one side (the elder) want to keep us inslaved and they feed off our emotions, while the A:O call to us because we are of their blood.. It is prophecised that we shall become as the Tiatans (A:O) in the future, and those that cannot or will not learn their ways shall not make it in such a world.

these are good questions, Evan.
when it comes to the paths of right and Left, i'm a strict dualist. the right hand path keeps us asleep by sublimating our desires and accepting whatever the universe wants. the Left Hand Path is about Awakening, change, evolution, and becoming more godlike.
it's important to stop negativity. negative emotions rob us of energy and keep us rooted in the illusion. positivity can be beneficial, but is always subject to the pendulum swing when things inevitably don't work out. for example, if you are positive about hooking up with some girl at a bar or winning money at the poker table and then it doesn't happen, you are disappointed and enveloped by negativity. suddenly, you may hate life as all your dreams come crashing down.
instead, it is better to be neutral. there is a clarity and freedom in neutrality and the void. it will allow Self-Remembering easier than being mired in angry frustration or dangling from the precipice of hope. becoming the neutral charge is not easy; it takes discipline and that's something the individual Cultist must work on.
also, don't confuse certain ideals with morality, good, evil, virtue, or vice. such things as patience, tolerance, justice, understanding, and even vengeance are for you. they are your tools. one who is conscious is beyond good and evil. a Cultist needs temperance, as well, as lust... depending on circumstances. at times you must be an asshole to someone and at other times it behooves you to be generous.
other than the right and Left paths, the Cult tries to avoid dualistic thinking. there's usually a third side, and this less traveled road is usually the correct choice. not positive nor negative, but again, neutral. it is important to see how connected everything is. how one truth defines and reinforces another.
if the fluffy religions give their own food to the hungry and the Satanic religions steal the food out of other people's mouths, then the Cult of Cthulhu grows (or buys) our own food and eats of it until full, whatever is left over we give to family and friends. we are not positive or negative, but neutral, utilitarian, efficient, liberated... empty but also pure. we do what is necessary to survive, succeed, and also escape from the illusions of this world.

Thank you, High Priest!
it's becoming a lot more clear now... i'm so down with everything you just said. im all about the middle path. the "neutral charge"... i really like that.
and i like what you said about being overly positive and having bad things happen and being swallowed by negativity. i know a few people with this pollyanna fucking view of the world and to be quite honest it pisses me off... its just so unrealistic and will only serve to bum them out down the line.
but at the same time, i know some people that could not be more negative, people that hate everyone and everything and want everyone to die because they're so "eeeeeeeeeeeeevilllllll" hahaha. these people are losers expending energy on hate unnecessarily.
god damn, you are so absolutely right! im a dick a lot of the time because honestly thats me operating on default, but i really try to be nice and when i can be honestly and its not something fake or put-on i am because i do want to be a positive force in life.
but im seeing more and more that ive been deceived just a bit. sometimes being a postive (read productive) force means being a dick. its means negative reinforcement. and sometimes it means destruction.
at least thats what i just got out of your words... am i on the right path here, High Priest? (mind if i abbreviate that to HP from now on? not to be informal but its easier to type and its HP... get it?)

HP is fine, so is VS. i like to save time while typing, why not everyone else?
yes, i think you're on the right track, but know that it takes a lot of time to fully absorb new ideas... concepts that are alien to this world need to be chewed over and over.
look at all the manic depressive people walking around. really happy and excited one minute and near suicidal the next. get off that train. just be. you cannot understand your position without continual self-observation.
don't do it for other people, don't do it for the world, don't do it to prove a point, to get back at someone, or because you've lost all hope. Awaken for yourself alone. this is your journey, no one else's.

what im really wanting to try out is just something simple i can do using my will and getting results. then i just want to build on that and do more and more over time.
so any suggestions? a simple spell, an exercise that shows me some results that also develops the will? a jumping-off point for beginning my foray into astral travel?
please help... im soooo eager to be who i want to be and get to where i want to get to. need my will on point to do so.
thank you, Cult!!! IA! IA!

you can try a small working as practice or simulation, but i guarantee that your results will vary when flexing your will muscles in the real world. in fact, your results in a year will probably be much different than your results in 3 years, assuming you stay with it and practice, learn more, etc.
use your will every day if you can. the world is a fucked up place, so there's no shortage of things that need changing.
