So, there comes a time for those few mages that make it this far into the game that they realize its time.....time for a permanent perception shift....when the self destroys the self and you Become or you fail. I am interested in what all of your thoughts are on this perilous path and how you intend to deal with it or have dealt with it. There is a lot in Ceremonial tradtions that cover the crossing and within the Nordic trads as well. Odin peered into the well and fell back screaming from the knowledge. What is your take on this? Or any of it. If you need references....see Liber Thisarb or Liber Yod or read Crowleys description of Pans Night. Phil hine also covers it in Condensed Chaos. Jaz.

I think crossing the abyss means when you can fully turn off your vision and see black with your eyes open.
It's possible I am starting to "block out" objects from far away at will. They actually disappear. into the abyss!

Crossing the abyss is also refered to as the Night of Pan, the Dark Night of the Soul and Chapel Perilous.
I noticed this thread when it was first posted and found myself at a loss. This topic right here is absolutely what this entire forum is all about, more or less. Um, in my opinion. As such, this broad and sweeping topic is overwhelming for me to even respond to. On the same token, the subject is somewhat self evident, obvious, even banal, to some of us. Anyone at all adept has entered chapel perilous (call it what you will) at least once. Some of us just keep diving in deep, again and again.
Which reminds me, go listen to Holy Diver (you know who sings it!) Any suprise that the metal dude who gave all the sign of the horns is himself an adept master? Digressing and loosing my audience!
There just aint no attaining godhood without crossing the abyss, cracka, please. Nigga please. Whatever your racial make-up (tainted blood!), please.
the abyss, of course, is Daath, the falsly so-called "false sephiroth", numbered 11, babey. Abode of the kliffoth.
Ever seen buckeroo bonzai and his adventures in the 8th dimension. A cute flick and yeah, the crimanls in that flick (escaped denizens of the 8th dimension, which itself is merely a prison for Them From Outside) were none other than a representation of a recurrent archetype---one which just keeps popping up, seldom understood. The mythos is all about this archetype. So is the Matrix films.
But so far I am only discussing, in brief, some of chapel perilousess denizens.
in Graal lore, one needs the four tradtional weapons on magick to survive the abyss, and to hopefully emerge from the experience enriched.
The sword of reason.
the wand of intuition.
the pentacle of valour.
The chalice of sympathy.
These weapons are of course metaphorical. To venture into the abyss while neglecting any one of these weapons, or traits, will of course result in one form of madness or another. Any modern advocate of the judicious usage of entheogenic substances will stress the fact that to properly benifit from said substances, one should be fairly well adjusted to begin with. The ancients, with their 4 weapons of magick were merely offering the same exact advice, with different terminology.
I feel like I cannot respond to this post without writing an entire book.
Furthermore, I have thus far only skimmed the surface, offering only the most trite and obvious information.
Maybe I'll try again later.

Okay, jasmine, thank you for the references.
Here are two more:
Robert Anton Wilsons novel 'the masks of the illuminati". Also the thread started by thamiel within the reality board, called 'kundalini awakening'.
The kundalinic crises itself merely being resultant of entering the abyss whilst not having all four aforementioned weapons fully attuned. Thus one daudles, having entered, but not successfully crossed.
Kay, shutting up now.

Well, while we are off topic, are you quite convinced that you actually have schizophrenia. Doctors just love to diagnose, ya know. It makes them feel useful. It also keeps the scary thoughts at bay, if you can wright off a freak (like yourself, mr docdr....um is your handle a kwinky dink?) as have such and such a disorder, and be done with them.
The insurance company tends to demand some type of diagnosis, as well. The fellows in white coats get paid to dismiss you as looney.
So anways--schizophrenia--final answer?

I agree with all sides to that piece you wrote.
First when I was a child I was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, bipolar disorder. And was medicated.
But that was not the case instead it was like you said.
Until I understood myself through magic it has been more clear that I have possessed these dis"orders" my whole life.
I have had a second opinion through a reiki healer and visionary. Turns out we both are on the same page.
Instead I see these madnesses as enlightenment of black magick.
The healer has sensed that I have been a master in more than one past life.
I believe that through the stars I have reincarnated (like in the necronomicon the worshippers of the ancient ones come from a race of stars) and my enlightenment has been passed on to this life.
She saw visions of me going through black holes and perceived this as alien abduction, which is kutulu! she is very receptive but miscalculated this "going through black holes" as alien abduction instead it was a reincarnation memory.
The alien abduction is correct which explains Kutulu in my life.... I see kutulu in my minds eye everytime i blink.
This enlightenment in todays time is perceived as illness.
I am not medicated.
and as for being a Docdr, it just notes my personality and wisdom.

essentially a good descriptor on this is the ONA order of the nine angles which can be readily found NAOS in terms of cosmology
but every representation of the abyss is essentially linguistically limited it in some way involves the death of self and the rebirth of a new self but the polemic of these rebirths is essentially different from path to path
my regards

but every representation of the abyss is essentially linguistically limited it in some way involves the death of self and the rebirth of a new self but the polemic of these rebirths is essentially different from path to path I agree that all paths have a version of this crossing in one form or another. But, they all agree on the destruction of self, the ultimate shift in perception. The realization that the universe is not what they originally thought etc. In other word the broader strokes are the same. The rest is fluff....window dressing if you will. But, what gets us there in the first place? What drives us and moves us to rip away all that we know in favor of the possibility of insanity? I think for myself its the ultimate quest for fire. The fire within. What drives you?

Personally if you want to get to know the Abyss TAP into your own Darkside. You are going to find ONCE you go through it as long as it takes in a sense you will be COMPLETE. You MUST have above ALL else Exttreme SELF CONTROL. Ignore but OBSERVE. I've been through it. Not Bragging either. Personally it sucked to know end. I HOPE you UNDERSTAND FULL WELL what you are about to do.
