This was an enjoyable enough of a read.
The concept here is a magazine of serial comics/illustrated stories, of Lovecraftian nature, in the tradition of Heavy Metal magazine. I have issue one, I do not believe number two is out yet. Some of the stories are quite good to look at, a couple are rather beautiful.
I will review, briefly, a few stand out stories next, warning:spoilers are likely.
First up is Knight Gaunt.
A super hero type story, set in a future after the GOO have returned. Memorable quote "Its Lovecrafts world now, we just live in it. Cities are in ruin, Shogguths shamble about wreaking havoc, Night Gaunts throng amongst the upper atmosphere. A small band of resistant humans, with various psionic powers plus advanced techno weaponry holds out, despareately against these outer forces.
By the 21st and final page, our heroes must make a deal with the hounds of Tindalos, whom they suspect of trechary (of course). The Tindalosi sets them off on a quest for the silver key, which is rumoured can be utilise to destroy the Yog Sothoth. A portal is opened to the Dreamlands.....to be continued.
Next up is Cadvarizer
Very sticky and icky artwork here, scatology galore. Reminds mne of Johny the Homicidal Maniac, i a way. Perverse and hillarious. I can't wait for the sequel.
next up is a film review for the Arcanum. I am excited for this. Gotta go out and get the book.
Next an illustrated Nameless city. Fine artwork....however, it is also kinda Boh-ring.
Some artist is interviewed. A dope painting adorns the back cover.
At eight dollars, this rag ought to have had more content. That is my major gripe. Sure the tome is 54 pages, but one of the stories is light on dialoge, and of course the nameless city has no dialogue whatsover, no narration, only b&w drawrinks.
Make issue two 80 pages long, and inlude at least on full color story and I will be much happier.
Having said that Iwill still buy number two.....Cliffhangers! They work.
A mini mag came with this also, which had little snippets both from stories in issue one as well as fragmets from future issues.
This helped, but over all we need more content!
I would love to contribute to this work in the future--if only the submission guidelines did not so clearly indicate NO TENTACLE SEX OR BEASTIALITY. Come on. No fair.
