actually, Cthulhu (what a great Tori Spelling vehicle!) has been advertised on this forum for months now - Ads by Google.
i don't want to pick on Tori though. sure, she got some huge breaks from her father, but that's life. and now she's barely getting by running a bed & breakfast with her new husband on this reality show, so she's definitely not rich at the moment. regarding the overall idea, i've known about it for awhile and i'm just kind of numb to the situation at this point. the trailer actually doesn't look too bad. i'm sure it will be better than Cthulhu Mansion... but then how could it not?
what i want to know is... where are the horror films like Evil Dead?

Did you see "Planet Terror"?

yes i have. there's a thread about Planet Terror, Death Proof, and the in-between trailers in the General board under the title "new Rob Zombie movies" even though Rob Zombie didn't direct Planet Terror or Death Proof... the first post was made before i realized.
anyways, i did like it. definitely an older kind of horror aesthetic. i guess it takes a conscious throw-back to that bygone era to create a fantastic horror movie these days. Evil Dead, Prince of Darkness, Ilsa She-Wolf of the SS... those days are gone sadly.
by the way, here is a (bad) review of Cthulhu: the movie:

Oh dear. That does sound a bit poor. I'd heard Spelling had something to do with it and was somewhat concerned about that but thought best to reserve judgement until I'd seen the film. Then I saw the trailer and felt more concerned. That review has put tilted me to dismayed. Of course judgement should be reserved until you've seen it yourself but the world is crying out for a decent big screen film of the Mythos. The sad thing is that Spelling could put that back decades, as no studio will touch any Lovecraft stuff with a bargepole after this abomination has disgraced the name to the wider public!

Hmmm... Yeah i didnt really expect anything from this film. Im still gonna rent it when it hits the stores, but had it not been such a typical hollywood escapade i might actually have bought it.

Who has seen this silent movie from 2005, is it as good as the reviews say?

yes, the black and white silent movie is definitely worth watching... if not owning. i've lent The Call of Cthulhu out to three or four different people and they loved it as well.
i've never heard of someone hating it, let's put it that way.

p.s. i like to turn the conventional silent movie era background music off and play some dark ambient instead. in my opinion, it makes for a darker experience.

I think i'll have to get my claws on this film. It sounds to good to be true, i am all for silent movies. I have only got Nosferatu though.
Thats sounds like a good idea with the ambient music. Although silent movies usually have pretty messed up soundtracks that are worth a listen, this story deserves something grim and different, like dark ambient.

I've been keeping tabs on this movie for quite some time now and I'm disatisfied at best. what should have been done was a clip movie of sorts, quite some time ago when movies were better, containing various short storie originals, like innsmouth, the cliffs of maddness, and mabey the original storyline of Call of Cthulhu. the individual short stories on film would have made a much better movie. although the silent film was a success.

Yeah really. Either the people making the movies just dont get it, or they dont care.
My guess would be both.

seems like these people just don't have the enthusiasm for it. Or the state of mind for that matter.

I really liked "In the Mouth of Maddness". Nice cheasy (not in a bad way) Horror movie. Got the same vibe from Evil Dead.
Going to watch the silent movie today.

So I watched the 2005 Silent Movie yesterday. I think its one of the best movies I've seen in a while, but you gotta be fast when reading what they are saying.
Im looking forward to this 2007 Cthulhu movie. I love all things Cthulhu and even if it sucks, Ill probably still buy it out of novelty.

I think the publicity the better. The more people hear the name of Cuthulu, the more they will want to investigate.

Just saw the movie. Didn't like it. They tried to throw too much unneeded crap. It was hardly a mythos movie, it was more like a Lifetime thriller with referrences to the mythos.

Agreed, too much unnecessary crap and definitely not enough Lovecraft!
I see Dagon and Cthulhu as pretty decent bigger-budget "professionally made" films which Will pave the way for future great Lovecraftian cinema, so I kinda like them even if they're not what I'd want from a movie based on HPL's writings. They're a lot better than most Hollywood crap but that's not really saying much.
Whether you like the movies or not, as a Cultist I can't help but love the endings of both, I'm sure you guys agree with me on that one! ;D

It should have been called "The Shadow over Innsmouth" but it was still a fine piece of cinema.

I love Dagon too, but it's still not a "serious film" in my opinion... it's something between a funny horror film and serious Cult prophecy. Which is a great combination actually.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. Sort of like the movie 'Lair of the White Worm' you can't help but laugh. Especially when she straps on that horn as a dildo. My gawd, yeah - let's play snakes and ladders darlin'!
