One thing I really like about the Cult is that is focuses on the physical as much as the spiritual and intellectual. As someone, I can't remember who, said on the Ooze recently, there's no other LHP movements doing that. At least none that I know of.
One thing that I want to improve on myself is my body. One of my long term goals is to try to live as long as I can, or at least try to make sure that when I die, it isn't because I wasn't taking care of myself. I have taken some melasures to reassure this. For one, I quit smoking over a year ago. The only problem is that after doing so, I gained about 20 pounds, and I was overweight to begin with.
My main goal is to lose weight. I've noticed that among these threads within the physical fitness topic, there is a lot of discussion on gaining muscle. I don't want to gain muscle so much as lose wieght (trimming fat) and tone my muscles rather than build upon them. I think it's cool to have big muscles, but I don't think it's for me. Do you, Lord Venger Satanis, or anyone else, know of any books/DVDs/anything that can help me attain my goal?
I know the basics: eat better, exercise and whatnot. I don't eat that badly, and I also walk half an hour to an hour everyday. My basic problem is structure, especially in the eating department. Rather than a list of foods I should be eating, is there any information out there you can lead me to that will not only list the foods I should be eating, but also help me plan out my eating schedule/meals for the week?
Thank you, and I appreciate your time.
Ia!

Thanks, LostSoul. The reason I ask is because the subject matter on one of the ways in which I want to transform myself, weight loss, is so vast, that I find it difficult to determine the good stuff fromt the utter shit, if you get my meaning. I hate the idea of dieting. I just want to eat right. And learn how to do it--planning meals and whatnot--as well without having to spend tons of money in trying to find the goods.
I trust what people on this forum would have to say on the topic.

There are people, groups, magazines, books, forums, etc. that can help you with planning meals and such. Maybe that's a good way for you to start, I don't know. A lot of it is trial and error due to the subjective nature of nutrition and exercise.
For a Cultist who wanted to do it more or less on their own, I'd recommend eating whatever suited him of the Emerald Nine foods list until he no longer felt hungry. That way, a Cultist can judge for himself what is too much and what is not enough. Maybe just skipping breakfast and doing without fast food and soda pop would be enough to drop 10 pounds in a month or two?
Also, walking is alright, but you should be getting more exercise than that. Conversely, many hard gainers work out too frequently and find themselves in an overtrained state. Most people would benefit from 2 or 3 days of intense weight training per week focusing on the big compound movements (see the Emerald Nine weight training list) and then resting/eating because muscles don't grow in the gym... they grow after our bodies have fully recuperated. What you get while training is just a pump - blood flowing throughout the muscles. Don't confuse that with actual muscle breakdown from lifting heavy weights to repetition failure while practicing good form.

What are the Emerald Nine foods. I figure Broccoli is one and I eat Lean Cuisine dinners that have tons of that. Mom is probably grinning her ass off at that because I hated veggies of any kind as a kid. Since the birth of my son thirty some odd years ago I can't get enough of them..lol. Awake!

I just stickied The Emerald Nine thread on the Physical Fitness board. Scroll down to about the 5th post and you'll see the list of foods I recommend.
Yes, broccoli is good for you, but don't neglect foods high in protein.
Also, I'll repeat it here for people's convenience...
The Emerald Nine - Foods
- Chicken Breast
- Eggs
- Seafood such as fish, shrimp, etc.
- Steak, beef, sausage, ham, turkey, etc.
- Low fat Dairy such as cottage cheese and milk.
- Nuts such as organic/natural peanut butter, almonds, walnuts, etc.
- Yogurt with active cultures and Greek Yogurt (low fat).
- Fruits & Vegetables
- Protein Powder
Try to eat some of these every single day and include each and every one of the E:9 at some point during your week.
In my estimation, getting into shape is a matter of 35% weight training, 20% cardiovascular exercise, and 45% diet.

Thank you, Venger, for your advice! I really appreciate it. I will check out some forums dedicated to weight loss for the meal planning thing. I will also look into more intense work out sessions, other than simply walking, where I won't be over doing it.
Again, thanks!

www.bodybuilding.comThat's a great resource. I lurk there frequently. However, my newest source of wisdom and inspiration comes from a book called Beyond Brawn by Stuart McRobert. Probably easiest to look for it on Amazon.com

I do weight training in the morning, after that i do 45 mins. to an hour on the stationary bike. Around noon I'll walk 3 to 5 miles, which usually takes any where to an hour to an hour and a half. Then sometimes in the evening I'll do a half hour on stationary bike.
Diet is very important. Keep carbs low, protein high, don't eat after 7. More you know the better, but takes trial and error usually. Don't give up is the important thing. Awake!

What's important is that you do cardio exercise at all. Cardio improves health and helps you burn fat. Some people assume that if they cannot get their cardio done first thing in the morning on an empty stomach that it's not worth doing at all. This is simply not true. Any cardio at any given time is helpful.
A study performed at Kansas State University showed subjects burned 1 kg of fat sooner when they exercised in a fasted state in the morning than when they did it later in the day. So it does make a difference when you do your cardio: first thing in the morning on an empty stomach is most effective.
But don't let that deter you . Simply perform cardio whenever you can.

Not eating unhealthy high-calorie foods is the best way to lose weight. If you do not get enough calories, your body will outsmart you and store fat, because it knows it is not going to get what it needs.
Your body could go into starvation mode and your metabolism will slow to a crawl in an effort to conserve its energy stores.
This is why people who cut their calories too low may hit a plateau and not lose weight. So one of the biggest myths out there is not eating is the best way to lose weight. This is simply not true. Hope this was helpful.

If possible, try to contain all your information in just one post, Alba Kalool. Also, paragraphs are your friend.
Damn, you must be in fantastic shape, hoss. Pictures?
Well said, brother.
I agree, just lowering calorie intake alone will eventually slow your metabolism and lead to a weight loss plateau and then probably a rejection of one's diet. Exercise is just as important as eating less. Also calorie cycling can help. Two or three days of eating below your maintenance calories with a day of eating well above maintenance calories. This could be a "cheat day", but hopefully it can be used to up the protein, complex carbs, and heathy fats.
Splurging on extra calories should probably be done on workout days. Have another protein shake or shrimp omelet!

Yeah that would work cause you're cutting out your carbs, like the high fat diet. I like to have a little more balance diet but as I get older I'm not eating as much meat as used to. I do believe meat nowadays can cause numerous problems with your body. I get my protein from sources like fish, eggs, protein powders. Thanks for the tip tho, that does work! Welcome to the CoC too! Obesity and weight gain is a big problem of the people to day. Everybody is looking for some effective weight loss suggestion. In my opiniom some effective way for the weight loss are to go for the regular exercises, take some veggies and water foods diets, participate in some sports, and avoid more fast foods, and junk foods.
