A hobby of mine is working on a fictional religion as a thought experiment. Tonight I found this which beautifully sums up a part of it's initiation process that I've had a difficult time putting into words:
So, from the definition given above, my initiation process shifts the mindset of the initiate from a defensive to productive mindset.
What's your thoughts on this?

The defensive mindset, as its name imply, has its use as an instinctive defense against untested novelties, which may threaten proven good old habits who kept us alive (and presumably well ; if you are not satisfied you are more inclined to try something else) to this date.
So true that you have to suffer before searching to evolve !

Are you talking about something like cognitive bias? (Which more or less keeps us stable?)

No, I was talking about conservatism, a more or less instinctive rejection of what is new and thus unproven, which has it's use and may give us stability and safety.
Cognitive bias is a poison. It goes without saying, but let me say it anyway, that cognitive bias is the opposite of any spirituality...

Thought experiment: POOF! You now know all there is to know about organizational psychology. What did you wind up learning more about? You enjoy confusing people. Indeed. This is what I'm up to this time: You have some idea of what can be learned by studying organizational psychology. If you were to imagine that you already know all about organizational psychology and ask yourself what you learned exactly what you would like to learn becomes very salient (and hopefully) easy to describe. Or something like that.
