I've been sifting through the dark teachings of the cult and the one concept that I'm having difficulty understanding or appreciating is the notion that we exist as "food" for the universe and its "Lesser Gods", or more specifically that "our suffering provides energy for the universe". I've looked and looked and haven't found any rationale for how the universe would benefit in such a way, or why anyone believes this to be the case -- as if the cosmos would somehow be shortchanged by contentment creeping into our insignificant little lives.
This seems to me to be an important cornerstone of the cult philosophy, for it establishes that we ought not be satisfied with the status quo in much the same way that Neo should not be satisfied with the Matrix, and we should instead strive for the more eldritch machinations expounded in the cult manifestos, reclaiming our heritage connected to the Ancient Ones and help to free them in order to unleash a new, abominable world order in which we presumably get a better cosmic deal.
But whereas in the Matrix, everyone goes to great lengths to convince Neo and the audience that the Matrix is the worst possible place for us despite its benign appearance, I see no such argument or convincing that the universe and our place in it is so terrible -- leaving aside the question of whether we are Awake or asleep. Because certainly no one wants to be asleep regardless of whether it is under the reign of the Lesser Gods or the Ancient Ones.
Any ideas?
Awake!
