was curious what martial arts people found useful.......currently im into brazilian jiu jitsu, traditional kung fu, judo, and boxing
I ask because I plan on moving into hopkido and eventually aikido as I come along with the hopkido, since from what I understand aikido leaves little room to recover if you make a mistake

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the important one right along with boxing. How about MMA training? You like watching MMA/UFC? MMA training is the most balance kind of training in my opinion. I was taking MMA/UFC last year & it was great. Twice a week for three hours each. They had the most advanced class's available. The hard core stuff in an octagon & everything. I was just a beginner though so I couldn't get in on that. Felt great.
To bad my house burned down & had to move. Wasn't very expensive either. In that year my skill level went up drastically. Ill do it again soon.

I've been training in mma for about 3 years now and find it the most useful. Its ufc style with Brazilian jiu jitsu and Muay Thai kickbox. I wouldn't get into aikido. I practiced it for almost 5 years and got a 1st degree Dan in Goddokai Aikido, it's neither practical nor an especially good workout. My opinion. I liked Shotokan and Jeet Kune Do as well.

Aww a fellow fighter, thats awesome. I training in MMA for 3 years, after my short lived wrestling career here in Florida lol. It was by far the hardest training I've ever done. Haven't been back after my torn tricep surgery, and that kind of training is over for me. At least for the time being. So you a MMA fan or what? lol. Heres a pic of my elbow after surgery. I split my tri in half and tore ligaments away from my elbow lol. The pic was in early of this year, I'm much better shape now, theres a post in the weight loss thread in the physical fittness with a pic of me now. It was long shitty road to recovery tho lol. Have you done any fights? Awake! Ia Ia Cthulhu fhtagn Attachments:

Jesus how did you get that. Was it sustained in a fight or weight training?
I haven't kept up lately with who the main players are, but watch the fights when I can. Grappling & take downs are my favorites though. A friend & I were wrestling a couple years ago & I rolled over his knee tearing all the ligaments. A year latter I was doing a take down in class & my knee blew out! Dropped like a rock. He said it was karma lol.
But ya, fighting's therapeutic. Its great for your mind. Ill be back at it hopefully next year.
Alba, what kind of wrestling career do you mean?

I used to do garage doors and openers, and somehow I hyper extended my arm the wrong way and heard the tear, then I felt it lol. Bad pain, but I'm better now lol. My wrestling career, short lived as it was was professional wrestling here in Florida. I went to wrestling school at Malenkos school of professional wrestling in Tampa when I was 19. Many years ago lol. I finished the school, did it about 2 years and then I got married and had my daughter. Make a long story short, I didn't wrestle again till 10 years later, just a few local shows. Then I found MMA. Only had a few fights, and was planning on more till I tore my tricep. Thats about it in a nutshell lol. Awake! Ia Ia Cthulhu fhtagn

That's pretty cool about the wrestling. I have this theory about Lord Humongous from the movie Road Warrior. That he was a local if not famous wrestler in Australia, & it was his reputation as a wrestler that partially helped him survive the apocalypse.lol
Thats cool that your arm injury isn't permanent. Fighting is great for the mind. It's the one activity that allows you to experience success & failure second by second. A very fast leaning experience. Teaches you a lot about your self. I love it.
You might be asked some day to join the Visionary of the Nigrescent Feast. Even if it wasn't permanent, just for something like security. Be pretty fun.
Same for you anon999.

To myself the most useful martial art is determination. When you face off with one or even eight enemies and show your war, there is a psychic boost that is granted to you and you are able to act in any manner with relative ease, If engaging the trespass you are more than able to enact a false door in front of the profane, thereby severing them from their cords, if willing.

Been practicing Muay Thai for a couple of months now, great fun and no nonsense. The gym in my town has also MMA & BJJ for basically the same cost so one could in theory train every day if you wanted to... the body might have something to say about that though. The basic course just ended and we newbies moved to the same practice group with the more advanced guys so now we can actually start talking about training, at least it feels like it. Combine that with my job as a paper delivery boy (=4 hours of bicycling/walking every night) and cycling at least 10km to school every day so my physical condition isn't probably deteriorating as fast anymore...

I find martial arts to be very enlightening it can also make fitness much more fun then just simply doing push ups and sit up witch can just get boring no maker how many kinds of work outs you know. I began practicing Jiu Jitsu about a month ago and i know in time it will pay off.

In all honesty try dabbling in anything. There is much to learn in diffrent fighting styles and skills. Think of it like a bundle of twigs. One twig represents one fighting style or martial art. Its good to have but say what if it is pankration. You would be good on the ground but not as good standing. Try to learn all you can and use them together. You would be prepared for anything.
