Praise all comics / manga / manhwa or whatever form of picturebooks you happen to love here. For me, they have been an awesome help in reaching Gnosis/Awakening and forming a perspective on this world, particularly the following works, authors & artists, in no particular order: Corto Maltese by Hugo Pratt This might be what has influenced my attitudes towards the world and its mysteries, past and present, the most. It has also given me a very enjoyable romantic view towards things past, and taught me to respect magic. Corto is the Eternal Sailor without a port, travelling from the pages of books into dreamlands through hidden Venetian doors, and his adventures contain valuable teachings to us all. And who could forget Rasputin, the mischievous but strangely symphathetic fellow who just doesn't seem to die? Or the many many other characters, who might not be so unreal at all... Sandman by Neil Gaiman et al I think most of you are familiar with Neil Gaiman's magnum opus. If you are, you know what the Sandman comics are about, and if you aren't - well, you might want to read them. They have given me a cosmic perspective towards all things, and taught me to respect Gods - and dreams. Thank you Mr. Gaiman. Books of Magic by Neil Gaiman et al Another great one written by Neil Gaiman. This might have been what in reality triggered my conscious journey towards Awakening and becoming a Magus. Do You Believe In Magic? Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo Now this presents a bit more scientific view of the future development of mankind, but stands right there with the best in my little Hall of Fame. Awesome manga. Lone Wolf and Cub by Kazuo Koike & Goseki Kojima Well, umm... this is the best Japanese comic I have ever read. Period. Everyone who strives to become a true warrior in spirit, should read this. It is that good. * * * I might have forgotten some terribly important ones but I must go to sauna so I'll continue later...

Sandman rocks!!! as do all works by the demigod er human named Neil Gaiman. Have you read a comic book called Kid Chaos? Its about a human who was raised by demons and then returned to earth. Its really interesting...or Shade, the Changing Man? an oldie but a goodie that I like is called "A Distant Soil" can't remember the author off hand at the moment. Also a long time fave of mine is the old graphic novel version of "V for Vendetta" its an essential one to have in your library. Well, thanx for the reminder Takuan....I will have to go reread all my Sandman's....hee hee hee!!!

Oh yes, add to my list: ANYTHING BY ALAN MOORE. Watchmen and From Hell are the only ones I've read so far. The man is a real, practicing Magus. What else can you expect from someone who looks like this? Nope, I haven't read any of those you mentioned Jaz... not even V for Vendetta. Will read in the future though, thanks for the recommendations! I'll check if I can find them from bittorrent...

Grant Morrison, the Filth and the Invisibles.
You all know what I'm talking about and no description is needed.
Also I will mention that art of Robert Williams. This is the guy who did the original cover for Appitite for Destruction. Really tripped-out surrealist paintings which are often violent and frequently quite funny. Having been naughtily turned on by the cartoonish violence on the Gn'R album, I discovered this guys work at a tender young age and, by golly, his work just tickled my young mind in previously secret places.
Jim Starlin.
All his work involving Adam Warlock, Thanos, Silver Surfer, Captain Marvel.
Oh, also good fun was Johny the Homicidal Maniac.

I can just say that i love comics in all forms. oh yeah, i recommend ANYTHING by Jack Chick ;D That guy is my f'n wicked. ;D ;D (am i kidding? who knows ;D) www.chick.com/catalog/tractlist.aspThat and the Freak Brothers, and EC comics That is the one with the robot and the woman right? I bought (and have kept) that for the cover alone. Im was always more into maiden. I wonder who does their covers anyway? I think i will go and find out.

Also, just about anything by the Finnish comic book maestro Petri Hiltunen... Väinämöisen paluu (The Return of Wainamoinen), Praedor, Harmaan jumalan hetki (The Grey God's Hour), Vala auringolle (An Oath to the Sun), Ontot kukkulat (The Hollow Hills), his illustrated versions of Robert E. Howard stories, MacBeth... That particular wizard was born in the same little 3000-person village as I was, Kesälahti ("Summerbay" or alternatively "Summer Slaughter" ;D)

I've actually seen that one before, just didn't remember. ;D There's a great neofolk/pagan revival version of some Chick tract(s) too.
I think this thread will be pretty useful since at least I'm going to return to this whenever I want to read some new comics and can't figure out what.

Gotta mention Battle Angel Alita again, cuz she's such a hottie: I guess the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga should be mentioned too even though I kinda like the anime/movies better. End of Evangelion fucking freaked me out when I first saw it and the series still brings me to tears so I guess I'm a soft little fanboy at heart.

And Deus Vitae is a pretty great one too even though I've only read the first volume, everyone who is into biblical futuristic stuff with absolutely unbelievable combat feats should like it.

This comic is something else. I remember it from my childhood, my brother still has it. Its made by a polish cartoonist who grew up during WW2. This is from wiki: Maus: A Survivor's Tale is a memoir by Art Spiegelman, presented as a graphic novel. It recounts the struggle of Spiegelman's father to survive the Holocaust as a Polish Jew and draws largely on his father's recollections of his experiencesThe Danish version is in two parts but on Amazon you can buy the full story together. www.amazon.com/Complete-Maus-Survivors-Tale/dp/0679406417/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200790196&sr=8-1Today there are more of these types of cartoon. There is that one with the girl growing up in Iran. And i have also seen one about North Korea. Cartoons are a big instrument.

Full Metal Alchemist, or Hellsing, they are interesting to read, not so much to watch. Or maybe I just prefer to read them then watch them.

anything from Vertigo, DC's sub-label or whatever. they do horror/sci-fi, like Constantine and Preacher annnnnnnd my personal favorite graphic novel EVER: Transmetropolitan www.transmetropolitan.com/its like Hunter S Thompson in the future, on way more drugs, bringing down the evil, morally bankrupt cocksucker of a president. its has a gnarly "fuck the system, down with it" bent. GREAT fucking book. i used to own them all. being broke sucks

A long series full of epic adventures, norse mythology and mystery. Know French? No? A pity, I believe these don't get translated. Anything that comes out of the publishing house Les Humanoïdes Associés comes with a guarantee of WIN
